Just want to say thank you...
This site has been a fountain of information for me for puppy training. I used to own pit bulls and I used to believe in the alpha stuff, and would not have been caught dead training for treats. I adored my dogs and we had a great relationship, but pit bulls are a pretty emotionally/psychologically hardy breed, and I could tell this German Shepherd puppy was different.
She is sensitive, could be skittish (we met her brother who I think has had less extensive socialization and he is quite obviously skittish), and was not going to do well with corrections, I could tell right away.
Thankfully this site has been a great gateway to positive training methods. Someone posted tab289's vids on youtube for me, as well as lots of other resources. I'm reading "The Other End of the Leash" (great book) and we are doing clicker training. I can't believe how quickly my puppy comes to me! And she is learning to heel, and has the most basic obedience down (like sit etc).
I thought puppies were cute but useless for the first year, and that treat training was for putzes. LOL. Man was I wrong! We are off to a great start. Thanks so much for your help.
