As many know, I'm hooked on Crate Games and today I took them to the next level by taking both dogs in their crates, in the car, to a busy parking lot on post, right in front of the PX. Opened the hatch, the door and both crates were open at all times.
Plenty of people went by, some stopped and talked to me. The dogs stayed. Some people asked if they could pet the dogs and talked in that high pitched voice that literally makes a dog want to get up and play - both dogs stayed. Cars, Trucks, People went by, neither of them got up without my release.
I went over to the other side of the drive-way with both crates open. Funny thing is that two big, muscular, Soldiers went by the car, saw the open crates and BOTH jumped and looked very worried at me "Will they jump us?" and I was like "Not without my release." jokingly and then I added "No worries, they are search dogs in training."
I'm not sure if that made them feel better LOL.
Anyhow, I did put a warning on the video. It's not something I would advise to anyone that didn't go through that training or doesn't have the trust in his dog. I know that mine won't get up. They are at the point where they hold themselves back no matter if you drop something, people go by, trucks go by or even a cat or dog goes by.
I strongly recommend crate games for everyone. It's the ULTIMATE SELF and IMPULSE CONTROL. Plus, it's really hard for someone else to get your dogs out of the crate. It calms them down, it makes them love the crate, they only listen to you (of course it's never a 100%, there is always that tiny chance), it builds motivation...
DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! You will NOT regret it!!!!
