8 month old shep

My pup is 8 months old and needs more training.. I've used one trainer that used treats.. and one that uses praise.. My pup is house trained but lately I see things I dont like.. Barking at some strangers, perhaps bec of color of clotheslady was wearing, as there were 10 other people there that he couldnt wait to play with. ( she was far off from us ) and barking at neighbors. Pup is very friendly and this is not agressive barking, still I want it to end. I'm going to engage a trainer that uses a pinch collar. I;ve seen how my dog reacts to tugs of the leash on a regular collar, and the answer is no response. He seems to be a bit more independent than my previous shepherds. The trainer but the prong collar on and corrected him several times. And my pup would still be very interested and friendly with the trainer so I assume that he didnt kill the dog. I need training but want no changes in his friendly personality. Perhaps the teen age period is kicking in? Would 8 months old be ok to start to train. The goal is 10 consecutive days of 90 minutes. training will start as soon as I arrive home to start my nite, so real-time training. this trainer has experience training police dogs and all dogs , so he says he is very skillful at using the least amount of correction to get the effect needed. Then, of course I need to continue his work. currently my pup goes to doggy day care 6 days a week and when he comes home he seems as wired as when he went in the morning.. Where is his sleep time., lol. Any reasons not to use a pinch collar on an 8 month old that seems to be resistant to other milder forms of correction?

I used a shock collar when he was younger , and he did well with it for a time but I left the collar on too long and the prongs caused some irritation bruising by the probes, so I wont do that any longer.
