Training session 3 with fear reactive Rey

Sharing because, face it - people that aren't working with these dogs just don't understand.

Rey was excited about getting in the car and going, let the trainer give her treats through the window of the car before I got her out but barked more this time defensively in the car. Then when we got back to the training area she tucked her tail and absolutely refused to let him demonstrate and wouldn't take a treat from him. I took over and she went along with me but was busy watching him, so we stopped. I had her do a few tricks for treats, which she was comfortable with and I knew the familiarity of it would calm her. Then I went over and put my hand on the trainer's arm, at which point she'd take a treat from him. He said I was definitely her security blanket and she was probably the most fearful dog he'd worked with. We left well enough alone, taking a break next week then back to a different area, quieter area for training. He is going to guide me through rather than try to demonstrate with her first. I told him my expectations are not what they'd be with a solid tempered dog, so it's all good. On the way home, we stopped at Lee's Famous Recipe and ate our usual livers during the hour-long drive back (another positive association I've incorporated). When we got home, I took her and Buddy out and her collar latch popped when they were chasing each other. I freaked a bit while her and Buddy ran all over the back yard chasing each other and playing, running in nutty circles (proud of 14-year-old Bud, who was able to keep up with her!). I was afraid she'd bolt but all I had to do was call Buddy (very loudly cause he's almost deaf) and she followed him to me while I got her collar and leash back on. I'm worn out and my workday just starts in 15 minutes.
