Unhappy To old for Petco Classes?

I was wondering if Bella was to old for these classes to do anygood. She will be 9 months old the 5th of this month. She's not as fearful as she was but there's room for improvement. A LOT! She's ok with our dogs. But goes after my cousins. She's FA more than DA. If I got her a halti and took her to the adult (6 months up) if it would help or be money out the window. Is it to late to teach her that not everyone she sees or dog is out to get her. She now let's my parents and inlaws pet her if I'm with her. And will go to my mom on her own for a quick pat. She used to bark and follow them. So she's better there. But I want her to be the best that she can be.

Lycan started his classes at petsmart right after his 2nd birthday and they've done a world of good. Of course it helps if you have a good teacher.

gosh, i don't think they're ever too old or it's ever too late for obedience classes to "do any good". i'm pretty sure it would be money well spent. ditto the good teacher tho.

She isn't too old for Petco classes but they may not be able to help either. Most PetSmart and Petco trainers are taught by reading and watching movies and then shadowing another trainer. They are very limited in what methods they are allowed to use by the store and do not have the training to handle aggression. I believe they aren't allowed to for liability reasons.

Petco and PetSmart's main goal is to sell classes. They follow a set lesson plan and that's it. While you can find good trainers at these places is not the rule but the exception.

Do you have anywhere else that you can take her? IMO, they are expensive for what they offer.

I don't think she's to old either Have you taken her into places like petsmart/petco? How does she do?

I'm not crazy about petco/petsmart training myself,,any obedience trainers around other than those options?

No she's never been to some were like that. She was so fearful that I was worried she would freak out. But since she is letting some people around her now and she's not AS bad I thought I would try. More for the sosalizatin with the people and other dogs. She already does sit, lay down. Drop and leave it pretty good. And she's learning wait and OK. (Release). Even if she don't learn much from the trainer unless there really bad. The people/dogs would be a good thing right?

Ohh I forgot this is all I found in my area. I really can't drive to tulsa. Muskogee OK is closest to me. And the closest I found for any kind of training.

Thanks Heidi but it did not have ANY for OK. Jus Ohio Origan and somethin else I know what kind of dog she could be if she could get over her fear. She's ok with fireworks/ gun shots tho. You'd think she would be scared of both but she's not. So that's good. Its jus the guy I got her from jus left her alone in his yard with out socalizing her when she was smaller. She's got it in her I jus need help bringing it out.

One of the biggest things that I have learned through formal training, is that I should expect and trust more from my dog.

I started Hondo at 6 months, I really thought that he would be DA, in fact I planned for him to be. I made sure I sat against the wall, I held him tight to me to avoid a lunging attack. Hondo slept through most of the classes. He couldn't care less. I had to work harder at getting him engaged then I did controling him.

I'm not saying your pup would be the same way, it's just that it might surpise you. Also, most people in your class are there because they have problems too!
