Heeling - Reducing the distance to leg

I am practicing heeling but my dog is a bit ahead of my leg. What are some tricks you guys use to shorten that distance?

Thanks!

You can use food or a toy to lure the dog into the positon you want and then reward them for being correct. You can also use the leash/collar to draw them into the correct position and then reward them.

Take a few steps back each time the dog gets ahead, do more left turns then right or abouts

If your dog gets ahead of you turn around and walk in the opposite direction. When they're at your side where you want them to be remember to praise. Might get a little dizzy but it works like a charm and they will quickly learn the only way they're going to go forward and reach whatever they're interested in is by walking next to you and not in front.
