Question 8 wks, when should training start?

So it has been a very long time since I have had a shepherd and I can't remember when I started training the basics. Walking on a leash, sit, down, those sorts of things. Any advice on when to start and with what, and expectations for recalling info. I started on sit already but she will only do it for treats. Any tips, advice or well wishing is welcomed. LOL :)

Congrats on your new puppy and welcome back on G. Shepherd world! Got my pup when he was 7 1/2 weeks, started training right away. In 2 weeks he learnt all the basics: sit, come, look, drop it, let go. Learnt 'stay' when he was 4 months. Not pulling on the leash at around the same time. They're awfully clever, however for 2 - 4 months old, their attention is very short, never train for more than 15 minutes. After mental exercise they're usually worn out.

We are working mainly on sit and down, very much food driven. Any tips on when to work away from that? And any advice on how to teach stay at such a young age?

RelaxA young puppy can't do much of anything for more than a few seconds.Crate training, potty training, household routines, and bonding with your puppy are at the top of the list.Duration and distance of obedience commands will happen in tiny increments if you and puppy enjoy starting while he's still basically an infant.

A long long time from now, but look up “fading the lure” for an explanation.

Yeah... a crate or leash

In the words of Aaron Rodgers “R-E-L-A-X, relax”.

The ONLY thing that matters right now is y’alls bond, you got all the time in the world to build from there.

(Also teaching her to use the restroom outside, that’s important too LOL)

Yeah we have gone with crate training and we are having great success with that. But I have read and seen and heard so many different things as to when to start sit and stay and down, it just makes my head spin.

BTW love the name, that is what we named our girl as well.
