Jumping/Pawing

I know it's her way of saying hello, but my 12 week old spends most of her time on her hind legs when we are around. She always jumps up with two paws leading towards you as if she wants to dance. It gets very frustrating sometimes when I go to feed her and she accidentally knocks the food bowl out of my hand because she jumps up to say hello.
What methods have you used to curb this particular behavior?

A collar and a lead. Make her sit or turn your back to her and ignore her when she jumps up. If you touch her when she jumps up at you, you reinforce the behavior.

Just saying what I would try. Have a piece of food in one hand and the bowl in the other. Lure her into a sit with the piece of food. As you do this, set the bowl down as you give her the piece of food. Praise the heck out of her and allow her immediately to go to her dish.

Maybe that will help shape the behavior you want.

Mine runs from afar and jumps and paws us full speed...sometimes with muddy paws. She's 7 months and around 55 lbs right now.

Can't wait for obedience classes to start LOL!.

Thanks for the tips! I guess I have definitely been reinforcing the behavior, because I instinctively reach out to touch her when she jumps up. Lol Must stop that!

There is always exciting energy when someone enters the house which is contagious to eager greeting pups! . Max likes to jump now at least once when family members and friends come over. they ignore him which does not help. I give him a ball which I found the thing that works the best so he can redirect his excitement and happiness squeezing his ball until the excitement settles.
