Leash Training

My boy is coming up on four months old and he is growing strong and energetic. He is a little more active and curious while walking and I am currently working on him heeling properly. He does very well in public areas but in nature he naturally is a little more curious and tends to want to pull a lot. He is wearing a standard collar and I can't help but feel that this can't be good for his developing neck/spine to be pulling. Is a harness type collar the way to go? I'm still very new at this and want what is best for him. Thanks.

A harness would be good for nature walks.Letting him run free is best unless there's safety concerns.

I agree. Unless there is traffic around, let him run loose before bad habits start to set in.

When I had to leash walk my pup at that age and even sooner I used a harness because she is such a puller and didn't want to choke her. Of course, that toasted my knee. I had to start using a pinch collar around 5 months, which is too young imo. Free running/playing is best. Have him chase you if you can run. Oh and I'd advise against chuck it or forced running until after 1 year old to reduce the liklihood of chronic/permanent injuries.
