Crate Training.

So. Merlin is just over 9 weeks, and I was trying to slowly introduce him to the crate over the last two weeks with treats, but he needs to start being in there overnight so I can separate him from his mother.

Any tips to get him to quiet down? I figured after 15 minutes he might fall asleep, but that is not the case...

Before you get on me about taking a puppy home before 8 weeks, you should know that he was born in my room, and I own both his mother and father.

I have never crate trained a puppy before...

Has anyone ever heard a GSD pup howl?
It must be the bit of husky coming out.
It's a good thing I don't work until 3pm tomorrow.

What do you do with your puppy at night if he/she isn't crate trained yet?
If you are slowly introducing the crate, do you just confine them to a single room until they are ready to stay in there all night?

Use the search function, there's lots of information on crate training in older threads, e.g.

My puppy is about 15 weeks old and stays in the crate whenever I can not watch every move he makes. Sleep in the crate as well. I put the crate in my room so I can be near him when he is sleeping. The puppy will quite down in time. If my puppy starts getting noisy it typically means he has to potty.
