A couple of new videos of Cooper, showing Impulse Control for another online competition of sorts (no prizes, just showing off your dog and his smarts).
The general focus was on "Leave It" but correct behaviours when excited in general.
In the first video I have:
- Leave it with food (on his paws as well as dropping on the ground)
- Sitting at the door, including when going in/out the door
- Sitting to come out the crate
- Sitting when getting food or his Kong wobbler.
In the future this will also spread to sitting when meeting people, he's actually getting there with that, without much intensive training.
In the second video I have more proofing of his Down-Stay, not getting up unless I say "free!" So I use lots of random phrases (pineapple, swordfish, spongebob... Yeah I don't know where these come from), as well as random movements. He used to get excited when I jumped up and down so that's much better, he also use to hate it when I left his sight so massive improvement there. In the future I'll work on increasing time and distance!
As mentioned in previous posts I am no expert, I just spend lots of time YouTubing and googling how to train, and work at it every day (different things, short training sessions, incorporate it with other activities). But I thought it would help others to see how a regular numpty such as me muddles their way through training, as opposed to experts!!
