Talking First Day at Schutz Training...

Well didn't Cooper (11 weeks old) have an amazing (and extremely productive) day! He shared the area with my trainers 10 year old belgian malinois and a 3 year old belgian malinois.

For most of the day he couldn't take his eyes off everything they were doing. They started jumping and barking... So he did... Our trainer is so happy with his socialisation, he's not scared of the other dogs - he even started barking at them just to get them riviled up :P, and is really wanting to learn... good sign I hope!

We reset his disipline to sit and drop; we both learnt how to build his drive to wanting the rag and he did some really good heel work..! AND we had no problem using some of the equipment that was in the schutz park (tunnel, beam etc). I'm so happy with him.. Just wanted to share it all with you...

Oh! and he held a dumbell without chewing for like 20 seconds, and "out" gave it back! I was so proud of him!... he slept in the car when he got home :P

I know! I've already jumped on a local dog sports site here in Aus and buying a few things for him (leather tug etc)... not going overboard -- It's hard as a new handler/owner to know when they are starting to get something but "Aus (owss) / Let Go" ... well I think thats going to be a long one for us :P

Hells yeah I'm excited. I want it to be addictive... this is going to be so good for both of us!

Sounds like a great beginning. My dogs always have always slept on the way home from training. If they don't I wonder if they worked hard enough.

Took pups to the local soccer field today... It's closed in by a gate .. So I let him wonder. And at the top of my voice "comeeeee" he looked over his shoulder and trotted back - prob about 20m / 60ft... Can't complain

2nd week and we tackled tracking.. (He will be teething soon...) Scent pads and crushed hot dog... Can't believe how amazing he did... And how meticulous he was in the straight line! Very happy. And as a joke put a harness on him that was just a tad big

Hehe - just put it on after his training to see how he liked with them on - he didn't mind it at all!

Thanks -- I think tracking really is his thing! He loved it!!! Kept wanting to go back!

your training may be too fast. I dunno but all my 6 month old does is bite a rag.
