Cats and Dogs....(didn't want to hi-jack another thread)

How can you get these two to behave!!

So the dog sleeps with us, the cats have the rest of the house at night, and our bedroom is his Den where he does NOT appreciate any cats (In fact he wakes me up at night with a low growl if a cat comes anywhere near the bedroom)

If he sees our cats its GAME ON! Big Boy barks cat runs, prey drive kicks in... and my house is totaled.

I have two cats a 12 year old and a 2 year old... and an 8month old GSD.

We probably introduced them wrong when he was young, there was nothing bad between them but I spent alot of time with the Dog and Socializing him with People not the cats... I probably should have crated the dog, and crated the cats and left them close enough to smell one another but not see one another and get used to each other, and then move it so they can see one another etc...

But can't go back in time. I don't want dead cats in my house (Would upset my kids) and I Don't want a dog who thinks cats are a chew toy....

On the side note... cats avoid my house now... which is good for my garden...

Yeah my young dog chase the cat if given the chance - the cat has lots of little "hidey holes" that he spends most of his time in if the dogs are out.
I will not get another cat once this one passes. Easiest way to fix the problem

Your bedroom should NOT be his den. Does he pay the mortgage? Why is he being allowed to make rules as to who goes where. Get a crate, put it somewhere other than the bedroom and have him in leash during the day. This way he can't chase the cat.

As a cat and GSD owner, it is possible for them to get along. But the can NEVER be allowed to give chase.
