So...usually Rumo is sprawled on his dog bed snoozing away at night. But this night he kept pacing, and then he stood and looked pointedly at the back door. I opened it and he went into the yard, but was back within a few minutes. I assumed he had done his business, and went to brush my teeth and put on pajamas. My husband was already peacefully asleep - it was late.
Began to get into bed and found Rumo standing wide awake by the bed, looking at me. When I got up, he indicated that I should follow him. He led me into the front hall and looked at his hanging leash!! I grumbled, "No walk! It's late!!" But he kept pacing and looking over his shoulder at me and looking at his leash - very clear that for some reason, he wanted to take a Walk??! At this time??!!
In my pajamas, I hopped into my old Uggs and put on my husband's sweatshirt and we went out into the cold darkness. He made his way to a certain neighbor's yard (the one who never cuts the grass under their bushes) and began to munch on the long grass under the bushes. I recognized this as stomach-upset grazing, so I let him eat. I was freezing...standing out there in the dark empty street at midnight wearing my pajamas...while my dog ate grass...I was sleepy but shivering...and thinking that the neighbors would think I was mad if they happened to look out their window. Rumo kept eating, glancing up at me occasionally in his "owner check way...
At last, it happened. In a series of gagging retching noises, Rumo upheaved the contents of his stomach into the darkness under the bush somewhere. We walked up and down the street to make sure his stomach had settled, and then he trotted contentedly home, got into his bed, and went to sleep.
And I was like, "Never getting another dog, ever again!!!"
Because who else has to stand out there in 30 degree temperatures at midnight wearing their pajamas while waiting for their pet to vomit...only dogowners!
