Wanting to have hips evaluated

Tia is now two (Kate hasn't managed to kill her yet) and I thought I would have both of their hips and elbows xrayed and evaluated.

OFA used to be the only registry, but now there is the Penn. Which is better and the most reliable? What is the average cost involved? Are there vets that are better at doing the xrays or can any vet do them? How difficult is it to position the dog properly?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to determine my course (and cost).

It probably depends on your location/part of the country. In my area, there are not many vets that would even offer PENN Hips. Price will also vary by location. I can get OFA's done for $180-$300 depending on which vet I use, but I am also in a more rural part of the country. $3-500 may be more realistic and if you are using a vet known for their ability to do top quality OFA xray's you could be looking at $5-700.
