9 Month Male OFA Prelims X-Ray

Hi, I brought in my young male today to get his hips x-rayed for an OFA prelim. After speaking with the vet she did point out a concern for the left femur head considering its straight slant on the inside facing the socket. I paste it next to the OFA 'fair' result to get a better idea of where my male might be at. I'm looking for experienced breeders with knowledge on hip x-rays to give me their opinions and thoughts on this. The OFA is on the left and mine is on the right.

Thank you so much

the position is no good....one leg is pulled way into the center which pushes the femural head further up and almost out of the socket....

I would not let the vet send these in and would firmly request a new film

I would ask for a refund or a redo on those xrays. Those are terrible positioning. The vet should be embarrassed by them.

Unfortunately, these were already sent in to OFA. Do you think these would at least come back as 'fair'?

I'm assuming based on the hip pictured on the right, that these would go mild I agree with the others though, that the position is quite off, so I would personally have them redone and resubmit to OFA regardless of the rating.

I agree with the others. Bad positioning. Many pet vets don't do many OFAs and therefore are not good at positioning.

You may want to call a reputable GSD breeder in your area and find out who she uses for OFAs.

In this photo, the opposite hip appears to have less coverage, again, due to positioning. I don't think this is a dysplastic dog, but without good positioning, you can miss out on a good rating.
