A pup with Severe Hip Dysplasia & THR

Hi all! I have a sweet girl who just turned one year old, Persephone. At 10 months she was diagnosed with severe bilateral hip dysplasia and I'll see if I can't upload the xrays onto here so you can all see the condition she was in prior to her THR (total hip replacement). Her right hip is pretty terrible, but her left hip was out of socket completely.

Two weeks ago today we had her left hip replaced at the University of GA. (She actually had to have the surgery done twice because within 24 hours of the first surgery, she luxated the femur behind HER BUTT. Yeah, we had the first dog at UGA for that to happen to, lucky us.)

I noticed as I was scavenging through the internet that I didn't see many personal stories on the surgery. When you're a worried mommy, all you want to know is that someone else went through what you were, but alas I couldn't find but one or two THR stories and neither of them were GSDs. If anyone has any personal stories or experiences, I would love to hear them!

My whole point of posting this is to share the log I've created on Persephone through out the process.

Our girls had the FHO done.

One of our girls had one bad hip. We went with the FHO surgery and she is doing great! Faster that our other GSD and fully functional. We didn't go with hip replacement on the recomendations of our vet.

@x11- Thank you so much, I'm pretty young (just turned 20) so I've really had to adjust my future to pay for her surgery, but I would do anything for my girl. And ironically enough, when we called them to let them know, they had fallen off the map. Phone was disconnected, no one's at the address, emails are deactivated...something tells me they've had a few phone calls.

@AngelaA6- My sweet, sweet Persephone. this link should work better!

@DWP: Oh, that's great! We'll probably have to get Persephone's other hip done later down the line and we're weighing out options for an FHO. How big is your girl? They told us the heavier the dog, the "less ideal it would be". But I've never really heard any personal experiences!
