Late heat and the term "flat dog"

Hi, I'm curious if anyone here has this experience.
So, my dog just turns 1 and everything kinda changes. She's in heat kinda late. Before she's in heat her obedience and protection phases were okay. Now, she's in heat. I was told that she's flat. I couldn't see it from my position next to her, but for sure that in protection training, she doesn't want to bark much and she drops sleeve often.

My questions:
What do you mean when you say "flat dog"?
Is my dog going to get back to normal or this is her true self?

If anyone could share the story when your dogs are in season, I would appreciate it. Thank you.

The first heat can throw many females off. They return to their before heat selves usually a few weeks after the heat cycle stops. Most of mine have had problems tracking during the first heat. Elena all of a sudden was gun shy. I totally lost LB's brain in obedience. They all returned to normal.

Flat means that they lose drive and their normal enthusiasm for the work.
