Danni Protection Video

This is a lot of pressure for her, but it was good and she needed it. She gets very bored doing protection on the schutzhund field only. It's not serious enough to her so she stays engaged but doesn't really show any flare. The environmental work keeps her focused and thinking.

Today she actually tried to bite the helper in the face (when she goes into the blind and you can hear him yell at her and you can see our reactions of holy crap!). He started stabbing her with the whip instead of just whipping it, and that really pissed her off. She's never gone for a face before but she literally jumped up and tried to eat him. It was good and bad. I liked her reaction, but I don't want her biting helpers in the face!

Anyway, enjoy.

Great session!! I love your "flower blinds" haha. I'm glad your helper saw her problem and stepped in. Sometimes they need to be shown its not ALWAYS a game. How old is she?

Thanks! I think environmental work is good for the dogs.

She will be 3 the end of December. I got her at a year old and have been training IPO for about a year now.

She looks great! When are you planning on going for her one? She's a fun little dog it looks like.

Thanks!! She really is. She's a drivey one, that's for sure! Loves to work.

Our club has a trial in February but I don't think she'll be ready for IPO1 yet. I think I might do her tracking title or something though, just for fun. She still has a lot to learn in obedience. I just started the retrieve and the send out. I'm hoping she'll be ready next spring, but we'll see!

I'd see where she's at. If there's something I've learned from both of my boys, even if I don't think they are ready, but they are almost there...try it. What's the worst that could happen? Fail? It's not the end of the world. I see trials as a test of my own training and handling. I'm still new and even newer at IPO. I'm a PSA gal haha. But, I thought my Dobe would refuse the jumps and the send out. He did a perfect send out and decent jumps! We were OK and passed our IPO I A!

So, keep training and see where you are at end of January! I think you will be surprised!

To add though, if you are really stressing, go along with your original plan. Don't make it a horrible experience though!

Thanks!!! We'll see where she's at. I'm planning to take her to regionals for her IPO 3 so I do want to score very well in her IPO 1 and 2. It's not that I need to, but still. I'm hoping to get in the 90's for everything, lol. I'm competitive that way.

We've got a really good club though and I love them. They talked me into my BH and she did great at a 58/60. Definite pass. I didn't feel she was ready for a long time but after she seemed to do really well and get bored with doing so much heeling and long downs, I felt she was ready to go!
