schutzhund

hi i live in the UK and interested in starting my 8month old gsd in a sport, at the moment he listens to me well but does pull on the lead and if he is off leash will sometimes get distracted and not come back on recall esp if a dog is there, would i still be able to take him schutzhund or need proper training?

If you wish to do Schutzhund, you need to join a club and have your dog evaluated for his drives and temperament. Where he is at in obedience right now won't matter, as it takes months and years to develop a Schutzhund dog, so you have a lot of time with the advantage of help and direction from your club to get him to SchH level obedience. It is actually better for him to be a bit free and be willing to pull some on leash - it will show off his drives better when he is being evaluated.

Don't wait to contact clubs, do it now. Eight months is a very good age to start your dog.
