If you wish to do Schutzhund, you need to join a club and have your dog evaluated for his drives and temperament. Where he is at in obedience right now won't matter, as it takes months and years to develop a Schutzhund dog, so you have a lot of time with the advantage of help and direction from your club to get him to SchH level obedience. It is actually better for him to be a bit free and be willing to pull some on leash - it will show off his drives better when he is being evaluated.
Don't wait to contact clubs, do it now. Eight months is a very good age to start your dog.
