A bit lost...

*takes a deep breath* Where to begin...

Well, first off, hello everyone. : ) Hope everything is going well with everyone and their dogs.

So recently I've been looking into getting a dog for Schutzhund work. I've already selected the breeder I will be buying my puppy from (True Haus Kennels), but that's pretty much it. XD I've never had a German shepherd before, and I've never raised a puppy for schutzhund, so I'm a little unsure as to how to go about it. I won't be getting a puppy for at least another year or so, but by all means I will be prepared for it. XD

So first... Raising the pup. I understand that it's important to not to correct or physically dominant the puppy, and to build up the puppy's confidence and what not, but we have two cats and I'm unsure as to how to socialize and train the puppy to not go after then without using corrections. Any other advice on this part would be very much appreciated as well, as I'm still a bit fuzzy on this subject.

Next is the actual training part. I live in Orange County and I have no idea where to even start on this. XD Do I join a club? Take a class? Does anyone have any advice on which clubs/classes in the area I should look into? What do I need to register with in order to compete in Schutzhund competitions?

And... I think that is about it for now. Thank you for taking the time to read this/answer my questions. : )

I would find a club that you would enjoy training with and that shows good experience in raising puppies for SchH. I would then allow them to guide you. Your breeder can also be an excellent resource.

On another note: what does XD stand for?

Ah, it's a laughing face. D: Sorry, I tend to use a lot of emotes even though some of them aren't very well known... :C

NP. I have seen it before, but never knew what it meant.
