Building up in Schutzhund

I wanted to share this with you.

As most of you know, Yukon was abused, didn't know how to play and was scared of everything. He's come a long way. If you would have seen him with your own eyes a year ago you could see how MUCH he shows in the video. He may not stay in drive but he is standing and once it is his turn he actually bites and goes after the "sleeve". He is slowly building up and three months ago he didn't bite at all. Over half a year ago he didn't know what it is like to chase a ball, play with a stick or even play tug-o-war.

Give him another couple of months and he'll bark and stays in drive.

Indra has great potential. I thing she speaks for herself.

Zenzy was driven into avoidance from the helper I worked with before. Ever since she didn't show ANY interest at all anymore and since we have dog reactive and aggression issues I refuse to work her via defense aggression.

ps: I know, I know, you probably think that he doesn't show much interest, you would have to know him personally and know how scared he was in the beginning. Him being like that is a HUGE thing. When I first got him he wouldn't even go anywhere near Schutzhund training and helper AT ALL.

So this is a big thing for him.

Nice to see him gaining confidence and learning to enjoy his innate drives.

Isn't it?

It's amazing what positive reinforcement can do. Last year he crawled under a table, ducked from every movement, wouldn't go near any helper and now he's standing there, relaxed, lays down without fear.

Sure it looks like that he doesn't have any interest in what we do but him not running from the helper is a big thing. We take it slow and do babysteps to build him up. And if he wants to lay down, he lays down. He doesn't have to be in constant drive and we let him take his time.

So many said that we would never get it out of him, that he would never bite at all. Give him another half a year or year... I bet you he likes it even more

He looks good. Like you said just keep taking the baby steps if that works for him.
