Re: how old is too old

I would think so! Maybe you could do novice obedience though without any jumping?????

Re: how old is too old

That's what I'm thinking, it takes years to title in Schutzhund, and the jumping and scalling wall in OB and the running and hitting the sleeve in protection takes a toll on their joints, I would worry about making a senior do that kind of work.

Though you could start out with a BH, just an obedience and traffic sureness test - no jumping involved. And you could do tracking also - excellent mind exercise that is not too physically streneous.

What about the protection alert title thru SDA? I think the protection 1 title has no jumping in the obedience?

Re: how old is too old

Correct, both the PA and P1 have no jumping.

I do think though that an 8-9yo dog would be better suited for some tracking or obedience (of the non-jumping variety).

It would not be right to put a dog of that age through the physical strain on the body required to seriously train in SchH or other similar sports.
