14.5 Month old crazy pup In Need of Suggestions
Good evening, I wanted to get some input on my situation. I have a 14.5 month working line czech male.
First let me tell you how my days go. After I wake up and get ready I take the dog out. I am in my last year of college and only work part-time so I have been with the dog A LOT since he was 13 weeks old and have more free time than your average person. Every morning we do at least 10 -15 min obedience work and then I throw his ball for another 10 after that. Also, at least twice a week I will lay a track for him in the morning along with the ob and ball. (We have been training in Schutzhund since he was 5 months and in a few weeks will be able to compete for the BH title. ) After this, I feed him and even after working he cannot relax. He cannot lay down for long. I need to get course work, reading, research, etc. done, and I need him to relax. When I say can't relax I mean always trying to get into things he knows he is not suppose to or bothering the [heck] out of the 6 yr old male GSD that I also live with, my roommate owns him. I honestly have to take the dog to play (ball)/ and or obedience 6 - 7 times a day just to try to tire him to the point that he will sleep for an hour. I have to tell you it is quite frustrating at times. What am I doing wrong? We train everyday and do the protection work on Saturdays, he is an active and what I believe to be happy dog. I am doing my part (mental and physical exercise, sport, etc.) how can I get him to do his which is relax when I need him to? I would say we have a good bond and good communication. I am just not sure if his energy level is normal or if I am doing something wrong.
Some members of my Schutzhund club think he is a Malinois, I always joke they might be right if they saw him at home and home crazy he is at times.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
