USA Sch trial questions.

Is there a "dress code" for competitors?

What I really need to know is can the handler wear shorts or do they have to wear long pants? A friend or mine is doing a BH with her Mal.

Also, when going for the BH, can the handler put the leash around their waist? Or does it HAVE to be in a pocket or around the shoulder only?

Not sure about the dress code but I do know you can't have the leash around you wast. I ask the same question when I did Max's BH..it can be in your pocket

Re: USA Sch trial questions.

I think it depends on the judge, I had my leash around my waist whenever I've trialed and it wasn't a problem. I have heard of judges who will make you put it in a pocket or over your shoulder and some insist that the buckle has to be on the side away from the dog. It IS in the rulebook I think but has always seemed like a silly rule!

I wore capris when I trialed and no one cared...but again different judges might expect different things!

Yes, you can wear shorts.

Leash can be around the waist (I've seen this a LOT and never encountered a problem), over the shoulder with it hanging on the side opposite the dog, or in a pocket.

Well, I'll have to remember that. they told me it could not be around my waist.

No dress code, but should be comfortable and presentable.

I have seen people that literally look like they rolled out of bed, slapped on whatever (and hoped it matched) and stumble onto the field.

Re: USA Sch trial questions.

Thanks everyone. I will let her know.

The friend of mine that needed the info is from the "Ring Sport" world and has trained and trialed many dogs in ring, as well as being a ring "helper". But her current Mal is her first SchH dog.

She asked about the shorts since (strange as it is, especially for this time of year in western WA.) it is supposed to be in the high 80's this weekend for the trial.

The judge is Rudolf Mietzner if anyone knows him and knows if he is the type to be "picky" about leashes and such.
