Vega watch 2014

Just as a fill-in for anyone who didn't read the other thread.

I adopted a dog from the shelter a few days ago, an owner surrender who'd been dropped of with an embedded collar, mange, was emaciated, HW+, and unspayed. Upon adopting her I realized she was also pregnant, and x-rays confirm 3-4 puppies. She cannot begin treatment for either the mange or HW until after she whelps, so we are playing a waiting game with her now, trying to get weight on her and get her strong, so that hopefully she survives the delivery.

Pics from the first day:

Some from today:
Got to go to the petstore to pick out some goodies.

Toys!

Eyes that could melt the soul...

She's a sweet, wonderful little dog. Despite everything she's been through, she maintains an absolutely exceptional disposition. She's been been affectionate and outgoing with every person she's met, has shown great patience and tolerance to other dogs, has been confident and un-bothered by all of the hustle and bustle around her in the home or out and about, eats great, loves toys, just wants a chance at this life that someone clearly tried to rob her of.

She looks so much happier in the pics from today. Wonderful of you to give her a chance at the life she deserves that someone else robbed her of. Keep us updated!

From my experience, skin scrapings do not always show the mange that is there. When the mite load gets heavy enough the hair loss becomes much more pronounced and the skin can scab. Before mine were finally correctly diagnosed, their skin got so bad that when the outside air hit it, it would ooze. I'd be tempted to treat for mange regardless of what the scrapings showed.
And her pics look very much like a modest load of mange to me.

I've been trying to keep Vega's activity level as low as possible, but she hates being in the crate all day so I let her out with the boys for a little bit each day to enjoy some sun in the yard.

She seems to be feeling a lot better than she did. She's got lots of antlers and nylabones to chew on, and has enjoyed shredding the soft toys I bought her. Appetite is as strong as ever, pups are expected sometime late next week.

Mulder and Ridely have been very gentle and have left her alone for the most part. Mulder wants very badly to touch her... he comes up and tries to groom her face/ears whenever she's out around them.

She is looking better, but not only that, more importantly you can see the happiness in her face. She is going to really be a striking girl when she recovers from all of this. Definitely wishing her luck with an easy whelping. She couldn't be in better hands or have better "brothers" to help her!

She is beautiful. I'm glad the boys are good with her. Mulder sounds like he has a crush Her eyes remind me of Shadow, she looks sweet and happy. Much improved condition.
Pay close attention she has secrets to tell you I think
