New Shepherd Owner

I "rescued" this little guy a couple of weeks ago.

I answered an ad on the local classified page for a Purebred German Shepherd about 7 months old. One of the rules is that you cannot sell animals on the site. When I called about him, I was told they wanted $50 for him. I almost didn't go look at him. Against my better judgement, I went ahead and went to take a look. He was penned with his momma in an above ground kennel. His ribs were showing and he chased his momma all over the yard biting at her legs. I was told the momma had some police training but was not forceful enough so they rejected her.

The mom was black and tan and the dad was white. I initially told them I had to talk to my wife and that I couldn't get him until a few days later if the wife said yes. Well needless to say I called that evening and said I'll be out to pick him up in the morning.

I took him straight to the vet the next day for shots and deworming. Also to verify age. All the owner could tell me was that he was born when it was cold.

Long story short, I got him on 26 Sep and he weighed 27 lbs. Took him back to the vet a couple of days ago and he has already gained 7 lbs. He loves to play ball and also loves to spalsh in the water dish.

The first pic is the day I looked at him. The owner had to keep a hand hold on him to keep him there. The 2nd pic is in the back of my truck coming back from the vet. 3rd pic is me in my kitchen with him. And the profile is of him checking out our yard.

My favorite pic is the last one from yesterday at the dog park waiting on me to throw the ball.

Forgot to mention, his name is Maxx. Short for Maximus.

What a transformation! I know he has a way to go but is on a good path. To go through that and be working out ... I bet you have a very close friend for life!

Good for you for getting him!! My Knuckles' mom was a black & tan, his father white... our dogs look like they could be siblings!
Can't wait to see the pictures after he's been well fed & cared for. The transformation should be fun to watch!
