8 week old Resource Guarding

I picked up my gsd puppy this Wednesday and so far he has been acting like a regular puppy. My 8 week male is showing signs of resource guarding only with other dogs. My roommate has a young dog that loves to play with my puppy but when it comes to toys the puppy snarles at the other dog. I can play with him as he eats or play with his toys and he is totally fine but with another dog he gets upset. I’ve seen some positive play between them and even with a toy involved but more often than not the puppy gets upset. Any advice would be great and appreciated!

I have two 100+ pound GSDs and a ten pound mutt. I have had them all since they were puppies. They all resource guard against the others. You can put three chew sticks on the floor and the only one they want is the one the other one has, and won't give up. Sometimes one of them will be laying on all three chew sticks and resource guarding.

It's sometimes noisy but nobody every gets hurt. I wouldn't worry about it too much, especially at 8 weeks.

Yeah, I wouldn’t recommend allowing the behavior to continue. We feed all our dogs separately, and high value treats are given in crates to avoid any nonsense. He’s 8 weeks old, you have the opportunity to nip it in the bud now.

The board is generally slower on the weekends, but I’m sure you’ll get plenty of advice on how to stop the behavior.
