Atti and his first raw meal!

Well I decided to dive into raw tonight and see how it went! He got a chicken quarter and a tablespoon of pumpkin just so we can see how it goes. At first he just stared at it in his bowl and licked it round and round in circles for a good 5 minutes. Somehow he got his teeth into it and you could almost see the lightbulb go off in his head. He finally picked it up out of his bowl and never put it down. I'm just glad he kept it on the towel! He LOVED it and came up to me after and snuggled. Now I have a sleepy, full bellied puppy.
He also had a VERY curious Pomeranian stalking him the entire time trying to figure out what he was doing. I made the mistake of taking my roommate to the store with me to pick some meat up. The entire time in the store I got an earful about "salmonella, it can't be good for him not cooked, why wouldn't I take better care of my puppy, have I talked to a vet, blah, blah, blah."
I can only add one picture from my phone, so here's Atticus enjoying his chicken!

Also, how do you all clean? As soon as he was done, I ran his bowl through the dishwasher, the towel went in the washing machine and the counters were wiped down with Lysol. The leftovers were sealed in baggies and put in the fridge and freezer. Good enough?

I'm raw feeding four dogs, best thing I ever did for them. A lot of people including vets are extremely uneducated about raw, they assume since we can't eat raw meat that dogs can't either which couldn't be further from the truth; dogs are not little people they are carnivores! Their digestive systems are perfectly adapted to handle high bacteria loads unlike ours.

Good luck on your raw feeding journey!

Sounds like how I clean after a meal. Though I don't have a lot of hard surfaces and don't feel like washing towels every day, so Kaiju gets his out on the patio. I do bring his bowl back in and wash it after every meal though.

I think Kaiju just sat there for a few minutes licking his the first time he got one too When he finally got his teeth sunk into it, he ripped off a chunk of chicken, swallowed it up, and then was so excited about it he took a lap around the house running and barking before coming back and planting himself on the ground to work at his quarter.

Good job!!

I feed my dog in a crate, easy to contain the mess and easy to wipe out with Lysol wipes!

Hey Sarah,

I wanted to bump this thread and see how things are working out? My pup had a similar first experience last night.
