Pup in my OB class

I started Loki in beginniers OB classes today. There is a GSD in the class it's a beautiful black and Red color. What I noticed when I was following it during class made me wonder.
This dog looks like a showy type. Very slanted back end, when the dog stands the back hocks look like there going to touch. When it walks the back legs seem to 'paddle' out and then in.
Does this sound like a normal walk?
I didn't get a chance to ask her any questions about his age or breeding but I would guess 6-7 months.
I've just never noticed the back legs to be like that before, but then again, my guys all have a more straight line then slopeing.

Re: Pup in my OB class

My observation is that the German show line crowd isn't too concerned with cow hocks. In fact several people who are more into other working breeds (like farmers with working Pyrs or Maremmas) have told me that some cow hock is OK and helps the dogs be more agile and turn faster. Personally, I don't like the look. My working line dog is not at all cow hocked but my German show line puppy is, though I've seen much much worse (in German and American lines).

Re: Pup in my OB class

At 6-7 months many show line pups look cow hocked, but they outgrow of it, so it is early yet to say if the pup is really cow hocked or not.

Re: Pup in my OB class

Most of the dogs I have seen like this are domestic show types....heard some comments on one at a match one day, some competitiors called it an "eggbeater" and as an aside told me that THAT was the GSD they were used to seeing, not ones with "normal" back legs like mine. I did see a Fleisherheim pup like this to some extent, very rear angulated, but he did mature much less angulated.
