I did try the e collar for leash aggression, but decided it really wasn't working. I do use it for off leash training now. I have been going to a reactive dog class, which emphasizes positive training but also correction when necessary. A lot of classes don't allow prongs so I can't go to them, as I use a prong for on leash. This trainer is ok with prongs, she uses one herself. I guess Stella will never be Miss Social but I can live with that....

HI! I found your messages via google! I was wondering if you ever did decide to use the e collar in place of the prong collar for walking and leash aggression...thanks!!! Beth

Or maybe she just needs more exercise/mental stimulation. My Stella gets nuts if she doesn't have that. It has been hard to give her the exercise she needs. I don't mind the cold or even the snow but now everything here is ice. Ice and a running dog don't mix well. But Spring is coming and hopefully we can do some more stuff and she will not be so crazy. Yesterday she was bored or mad at me because I was ignoring her. She decided to shred her bed. Or she will get into the trash....or find something she knows is not allowed. There dogs are too smart.
Just now she decided to take my gloves out of the box and tease me with them...Guess I have to go....it's Stella time.

My Stella is always up to something! I feel like I have a toddler in the house. She likes a lot of attention too. It seems impossible to get much of anything done. I used to put her in doggie day care once a week just to get a break. But she got snarky with 2 dogs there so I may not have that option anymore.
I don't really know about the mouthing. Just stick a toy in her mouth instead of your body...??? Stella was mouthy when she was younger but I stopped all play or whatever when she made contact with my skin. Maybe a time out when she gets too mouthy? Lots of reward when she is appropriate? I know I wouldn't want those adult GSD teeth mouthing me :)

    Hi,
Great hearing from you. It's been a while since I've been on. My Stella is doing good. 17Months old now and so full of energy no matter what we do. We are still having an issue with her mouthing. We have tried everything. She constantly wants attention. I can be sitting on the couch and she comes up wipes my feet and takes off and run around barking. If you have any ideas on how to stop the mouthing I am all ears. I am looking forward to the spring so I can get her back to walking in the park.
How is your Stella doing? Is she over all the stomach issues?

They do get a little nuts. Kira has a way around strangers in my house. She likes to keep them in check.
I don't fault those that are concerned. However, I don't happen to like the condescending way they go about it.
The dog is an angel in every way. She gets excited if someone gets too excited. I either have to watch her, or crate her.
They beat the crap out of me sometimes LOL

I used to let her off leash when she was younger....she would just follow me and my other dog. Then one day she decided it would be more fun to chase the birds in the road that was very far across the field we were in! That was her last unleashed moment unless we are in a fenced area or with another dog that comes on command! I have a 30 foot leash that I put on her when out in the woods or fields. This way she can run a bit but no further than the leash. She seems to be getting a bit better when I call her...but nowhere near 100%.
Glad Stella is feeling better. My Stella now is on pancur. Her diarrhea came back after getting off the metronidazole. Her poop is better but still not perfect. I, like you, am worried about gi problems. I know GSDs are prone to them.
Does your Stella react to other dogs?

Hi, Yes Stella is our only one. We lost our golden 2 years ago. She was 12. I swore would NEVER get another. Now I want another GSD. My husband wants a sable GSD. Maybe in a few years!!! I don't think I will get another puppy.

Stella seems to be feeling better. One more day on meds. I did get some pumpkin to add to her food when I switch her back. I just hope she doesn't always have GI problems. It seems like GSD are prone to stomach issues. This past week has been crazy with her not feeling well. It's just like having a baby.

Are you able to leave your Stella off leash? I have not tried because I think she will take off on me. I don't feel that I have 100% control of her yet.

Stella is on Metronidazole and bland food for a week. She misses her Wild Blue. We went to a trainer for 4 weeks and learned nothing. He said I wasn't a strong enough. It was all about positive reinforcement. Stella is extremely mouthy. I have had bruises all up my arm. She never messes with my husband.

I finally had enough and just went to another trainer. In one hour she taught me how to stop the mouthing. The right trainer is all it took. It is nice not to be bruised and bleeding. Next training session is in a week. She is expensive so I can only go every other week.

Unfortunately, we do not have a fenced yard so I try to walk her 2 miles a night. Some weeks are tough after work to get out walking. I take her to daycare to get her socialized as well as tired. She is dead tired when I pick her up.

Your Stella is beautiful. Is she your only one?

Hi, I took Stella to the vets tonight. Negative for parasites(thank goodness) no temperature. She gave me an antibiotic/ antidiarrhea medicine and for her to stay on a bland diet. She is eating, drinking and acting normal. Hopefully this helps her. Are you traing Stella? I feel like my Stella is behind compared to most on this forum.

Hi, My Stella is 7 months old and boy is she a handful. I think she is feeling better today. I have been doing the chicken & rice. We walked in the park last week and I think she caught something there. I alsojust bought the organic pumpkin. I am going to try a teaspoon in her food as well.
