Teaching how to use a doggie door

My GSD is a strange dog. So, we've had her about 3 years now, and we've had our doggie doors even longer. However, she doesn't want to push them open herself. Oh no, she must have somebody else do it for her (usually our beagle mix)!

We have tried everything from standing out on the other side and calling for her (different ones from the family, but she usually responds better to my mom or me) to using various treats to lure her through. She still has never lifted the door on her own. She prefers for somebody else to hold it for her. I mean, I don't blame her, but there comes a time when a lady needs to hold open her own door(flap)!

Does anybody have any other tips that we could try? I'd love to be able to get her out more, and I'm hoping easier outside access would let her burn off more energy during the daytime when it's at least tolerable outside.

Maybe she doesn't like using her head - have you shown her how to move it with her paw?

I can't give further details about this as I've never tried it but I remember it was something I read in the booklet when I installed my cat flap - I know my one cat just pushes the door with her paw and the other cat uses her head.

I'll see if I can get her to manage to use her paw! Our dogs are trained to do a light scratch at one of our doors with one paw to be let out when it's shut, but I've never seen her use her paw on the flap yet.
