We need your help

We have an 18 month old female. We've had her since she was 8 weeks. She has pretty much been an outside dog. She is only in at night and then in a kennel. I am now able to be home and want to teach her to be an inside dog. She doesn't know how to act. She runs thru the house and grabs everything in sight. I just need to know how to start. She has a GREAT personality.

Well... you have kept her outside from when she was 8 weeks old until she's 18 months old. Means, you have not taught her any housemanners at all, so I am not surprised at all that she has no manners.

Tether her to your hip so she can't run through the house. Keep her on your side at all times until she calms down and learned manners. Also, teach her basic obedience and practice NILIF. Properly exercise your dog, work her, and you become her safe haven. That way she learns that she can trust your judgment.

Treat her as a new puppy, and watch her closely. She will be so happy to be inside with you, good luck.

Since she is now 18 months old and physically mature, you might try a nice long walk or exercise session before you bring her in the house. If she is tired, she should settle down more easily and she may be more receptive to learning the expectation of a house dog rather than a backyard dog.
