Boundaries

I'm wondering how people teach their dog's boundaries.
Let's say I don't want my dog to go on hardwood floors but he is allowed every else. How would you train your dog to stay off the hardwood floors?

I'd put up a gate.

I taught Koda to stay out of areas by placing tape at about eye level. She would start to go under it at first, and I would firmly give her the "Beat it" command (she backs up 3-5 ft). Eventually I put the tape on the ground. If she saw it, she would double back the other way. If she didn't, or decided to pretend not to, I would give her the command and she would back up.
Now if I need her to stay out of an area, I simply have to put tape on the doorframe or floor in the entryway.

Or you could do like Alexis says and put up a gate
