Behavior

My GSD has always laid down to rest kind of like dropping bricks to the ground. When she lays down she always basically plops on her elbows it sounds extremely painful and I'm worried about bone damage. Any suggestions how to change this behavior? How do I gather to lay down more gently?? I mean how do I change something she does on her own? Please help

I've had dogs that go down gently and ones that drop down like sacks. Not sure how much long term damage it does because I never had any issues come up from dogs doing that versus not. You could get her a soft bed or rug to cushion the blow. Not sure what type of training you can do for this...

Luxie,
My Rocky is only 4.5 month old and he does exactly the same as you describe. I literally cringe when I hear him drop. I have put 4 beds/blankets in the kitchen now, but alas, he still quite often prefers to collapse on the cold kitchen floor.

I'd be really interested to see what people say, as I'm concerned about this too as his bones are still developing. Other than putting him in a bite suit of his own, I have no idea?

We've got four ll bean and kong soft dog beds and a few blankets set out and I tell her to get on her bed and she usually will lay down on this when I tell her but we have hardwood and when I don't tell her she plops down... It makes me cringed too
