City Slicker and Country Livestock

I'm hoping for some help/stories from some of our farm people on the forum.

I live in the city and I've been working with someone and her GSD, who is not quite a year old now. The owner has a farm outside the city with goats and chickens. Her GSD has already killed at least one chicken and is definitely too excited by the livestock. I have only worked with her in basic obedience and teaching her GSD to respect her parrots in her city home; she has just recently asked me to help her with her livestock problem on the farm.

Of course, this would have been easy peasy if she had laid the groundwork/rules down for her dog from the start, but she didn't and now we need to back up. I have a lot of ideas already of how to tackle this using what I already know but I would like to hear from those of you with specific experience with your GSDs and livestock please.
