UTI?

I have a 10 weeks old puppy. I have him for about 10 days now. I have been crate training him with no problem until last night around 1am my sister gave him a lot of water to drink and didn't take him out at 4am. When I woke up this morning around 7am he was sitting in a corner of his crate. He peed on the other side. Through out today he has 3 accidents in the crate and about another 4 or 5 in the house. Pee a lot drink a lot of water and lick himself after he pees. Can this be UTI or bladder infection?

Re: UTI?

It can be but he may simply need to go out more frequently.

Re: UTI?

It could absolutely be an infection, especially if his water intake has increased and he's licking himself (and didn't before). Can you get a pee sample to take to the vet? It's best to get the very first one in the morning b/c it's the most concentrated.

Re: UTI?

Sounds like an infection to me. I'd definitely go see a vet if I were you. Thats a lot of pee to not get it checked out.

Re: UTI?

Calling the vet first thing in the morning then. How long can the urine sample last before the vet think its useless or expired?

Re: UTI?

Not really sure about that. I'd just call the vet in the morning and ask what they need you to do. Maybe some other member with UTI experience can help.

Re: UTI?

Oh I read your first post over again and realized he's 10 weeks old. At first I thought I read 10 months old. Big difference. Please ignore my illiteracy.

puppies pee a whole lot so it may be normal. Can you give a little info about his crate? How much room are you giving him in there? Puppies just crate training need just enough room to stretch out and turn around and thats it. No more, no less. If given more, they pee on one side and sleep on the other which might be happening here.

You also want to cut out the water a couple hours before bed. Just take away the water bowl until the morning. Keep taking him out at least every hour, after playing, after waking up, after eating... pretty much before and after everything.

Have you been doing all this and he's still having the accidents?

Re: UTI?

Take the sample in the morning when you first take him out. Make sure to put it in the refridgerator until you can get it to the vet.

Re: UTI?

Hi crate is section off to only about his size so he can stretch and turn around. Haven't had an accident until yesterday but I did noticed that his lipstick (penis?) came out when he was playing with his ball. Can it be that some hormones are changing in him?
