Announcement - Photobucket images no longer working

Hello,

Photobucket.com has recently changed its terms of service for free users on their platform. As of June 20 images hosted by Photobucket and shared on our forum, or any other third party sites, will no longer appear. As a result, you may notice a higher amount of broken images on the forum.

If you do not have access to edit your older posts please contact an Administrator or Moderator for assistance. Please provide the new URL for the image that needs to be edited and a link to the thread the image in located in.

More information on the change and what it means for Photobucket users can be found below.

Photobucket Terms of Use http://photobucket.com/terms

Thank you

Wow...that's going to break hundreds of old threads. Does anyone have a replacement photo service to recommend?

A few of us started talking about this last weekend and unfortunately we really don't have an answer yet. Photobucket is going to be charging about $40 per month for a subscription level that allows this sort of hosting, which unfortunately is not something most will be willing to pay... even though the thought of all those useful threads becoming useless is very frustrating.

I'm not sure what direction Flickr is going to take, I'd welcome feedback from anyone with inside info.

I would consider uploading from my phone directly BUT the problem is it always winds up on its side with no way to rotate. If THAT could be fixed.......

You could use Flickr, you get free storage upto 1TB, no limits to image resolution (so the quality will be retained) and has apps across most operating systems (iOS, Android and Windows OSX). Alternatively you could also use Google Photos/Drive which would technically be more reliable in the long run, they're automatically backed up and you have unlimited storage, probably the best option in the long run.

Edit: In terms of quality when comparing Flickr to Google Photos, Flickr has no limit to image resolution and so the quality of your pictures will be retained, though Google has a cap at 16 megapixels for pictures and 1080p for videos.

We've also increased the maximum attachments in threads for all users, so feel free to upload more directly to the site.

This sounds like an old issue I remember. Quick experiment to see if it's the same thing: take a pic of something, but when you do try and make sure you are holding the phone sideways, with the home button is on the right, the volume buttons facing down. Upload that here and we'll see

Yes, that's the change they made back in early July of this year. You're more than welcome to use other 3rd party hosting sites (there are plenty free ones out there) but be cautious - it may just be a matter of time until they follow suit like what Photobucket did.

We highly recommend that you upload your photos directly to the site to avoid this sort of situation in the future. Let us know if you have further questions or need assistance with this.

Cheers,
Nate

Old and not super computer literate, so how do I upload picture directly? I am leery of the free services as I has butterfly photos used by others as theirs even though tagged no sharing. Thanks
