It's the end of (only) day 2 for Griff (10+ weeks old) and me. We (he and I) worked very hard on going up and down the indoor stairs. It took about 5 sessions of about 10 minutes each before he did it. Not for treats but for my company. He did it all on his own and was relieved and happy when he reached me. Never have I had a pup so determined not to do this. I tried to get him to wade through a small, shallow creek; same response; "No Way!" After I stepped over it he searched for the narrowest crossing, found it and jumped so only his front feet got wet. Later he studied Deja who loves running through water. I don't think he understood the fun of it (yet). We also worked on sitting at the door before it opens, which he did well. Walks on leash OK, fetched balls, played tug with a rope and released. I know this is a lot of bragging but I am realistic and sure there will be hurdles on the way when I wil be in tears and pulling out my hair and asking for support here as he is scarily smart and determined but super sweet at the same time. This afternoon he jumped in my heart when I sat on a tree stump, enjoying the sun while he rummaged around. He saw me, came up and nestled himself against my back. I hugged him and he looked at me with that magical GSD-look, ears flat. I cannot recall a more amazing pup. Oh, and no accidents yet!
I think you will see / read more of him in the future.
Next project will be introducing the Dremel. I am sure that today's stairs-walking lessons will be a breeze compared to that one.
