Narrowly avoided an emergency

My neighbor brought a carton of home-"grown" eggs. Since they were all pretty dirty I saved them for Deja. Yesterday I added one of them to her raw food and to my surprise she kept rolling the egg around in her mouth, dropping it, then licking, then taking it in her mouth again etc. Normally she places it on the grass, cracks it carefully and slurps out the content. I was watching it for a bit and thought that it may have been too dirty so I took it from her and OMG: it was the fake, ceramic egg to point to the hens where to lay their eggs. Thank Heavens that I was watching her and have trained her to be OK with me taking away treasures as another dog might have immediately swallowed it or taken off with it or growled. It happened because my neighbor's wife is gone for a few weeks and he is taking care of the critters but evidently didn't know about the fake egg.
Deja, the perfect dog she is, saved herself by giving up "food" from a bowl with raw meat in it. Lesson learned: always check your eggs, especially the ones from hobby farms.
