Cleaning dog pee and not letting them see.

I read in a few sites and posts that you should not let your dog see you cleaning their pee. Why?

Hm. Have you seen that advice here? You might ask the sites that posted that for their thinking. I can't say I've seen that advice here.

I've never practiced that, and I've potty trained a lot of dogs because I foster for rescue. To me, the important thing is to get the smell out with enzyme cleaner, get them in the right place to pee outside, reward/praise, etc.

The only chore I am careful to not let my dogs to see me doing is planting in the garden! They see me dig a hole, put something in it, and well, they think like a canine: "she's buried some food treasure, must see what it is!" Then I come out and find all the flowers dug up, dirt flung everywhere, and my holes "investigated."

I never thought it would be a problem with letting dogs see me cleaning up the mess. My hubby usually scooped the pup up while I cleaned the floor, just to get things done quickly before anything soaked in. There was no intent to hide the fact.

My she-pup went through a couple of days where she would pee in her crate so I would take her outside. Smart alec. I cleaned the crate and put her right back in (then took her out a little later). After two days she stopped peeing in her crate.

Magwart, I sure know about the garden issue. My boy used to unplant things for me all the time.
