Genders

It's not uncommon to hear about dogs that just don't like male people, but you never hear about dogs disliking female people. I'm talking about the dogs that just don't like male people for whatever reason not due to any kind of mistreatment or abuse. Any guesses as to why that is?

Its not really about "not liking" it's being fearful. Larger stature, deeper voices, or maybe we males just smell "funny", lol

Eta, my younger male is like this, not an issue with my other three.

I think it has more to do with bearing then gender. Males are often very direct and 'take charge'. Females are in general the nurturing type, although they c an be very take charge as well just with a bit more sensitivity to the happening around them.. This is a generalized statement as it can be the opposite, but usually not.

I fostered a dog like that. She had been abused her whole life by an adult male.

Onyx disliked women after she was spayed(vets and techs were mostly women) She was always reactive with women after that procedure, and if a woman was intimidated by her, she would ramp up her level of aggression.

She was ok with most guys. There was no abuse, nothing for her to act that way. My assumption was that while under sedation during her spay, the sedation wore off and a woman was in her vision...panic/fear set in and it imprinted on her.

She still has this in her. She is generally ok with friends coming over, but if they focus on her she may go off. I manage her carefully and so far so good. My vet now is a woman, and Onyx will go off on her, but the male tech that does most of the hands on stuff she seems to be more calm with(though we take precautions when she is being vetted)
