Where is your GSD if you travel?
My male GSD is almost 9 months old. My girlfriend & I got him when he was 8 weeks. Unfortunately things didn't work out & now it's just my GSD & I. I work 8-5 during which he is in his crate. I come home for 20 minutes everyday to let him out for bit. I always make sure we get to the field for almost an hour for off leash fetch everyday. We also do training sessions almost everyday & walks when the weather isn't great. On the weekends we go to the dog park & field for off leash. A couple times a year I need to travel for work. Usually just two nights in the middle of the week. I'm trying to decide what I should do with him & i have several options....all of which make me nervous because I just want him to be happy & not think I left him
. I am considering putting him in a doggy daycare for those days & nights...there seems to be a good one close by. Has anyone had experience? The plus side is this would allow him to get exercise (probably even more than he gets during the week). If I choose this, I will take him there for a day so he can try it out before I leave him overnight. Another option is to take him with his crate to my parents house who live close by. They have a large finished basement that they can keep him in. The issue is, their dog is not well socialized & can't even meet him ugh. Staying there he could probably get out in the backyard for a bit each day but he would have to be in his crate a lot. He definitely wouldn't get the caliber of exercise he gets with me. My third option is my neighbors, they have a rottweiler who just so happens to be my GSD's best friend. They play all the time & it's great exercise for both of them. They could come over to feed him, take him out, etc...& I assume they would let them play considering they need to tire their dog out as well. I feel bad tho because I don't know how well my GSD will listen to them & he has a lot more drive than their Rottweiler.
Which one do you think would be the best option? What are some of the things you've done.
