Id say it is generally true, that ANY brand available in a supermarket is poor grade. The worse the quality, the more waste too, as its got a lot of 'fillers' in it.
Anything you can buy from an Australian vet practice, is also very poor nutritional quality, costs the earth style. Its called the science diet. And there is very little science knowledge applied in its making.
We are on our 4th GSD. And way back, before i knew better, i fed pedigree chum kibble. Won best in show, fantastic condition dogs back then, fed on crap, go figure?
Raw is best. BARF (raw diet, but made by a company) is delivered to your door here in Oz.
I make my own, as 3 dogs, all with different additives required, 1 who's got extreme skin sensitivity, raw if the ONLY way i can guarantee no allergens inside.
And after i take such great care, they add to diet with dead animals with meat still on them roughly once a week. They also eat rabbits they catch themselves. < meat is very expensive! so they muck in with supply from time to time.
