Greta or Gretchen?

I just bought a new black sable girl, she is 3 years old, and I am her 4th (and final!!!!!!!!!!) home. She is the sweetest girl ever (then again I am biased.)

I need help with her name though, I just can't make up my mind, and I'm driving myself and hubby nuts.

Her registered name is Gretta Aus Keller Familie Zwinger. Gretta Aus Familie Keller Zwinger - German Shepherd Dog So naturally she came with the call name "Gretta". Now I'm no German speaker, but I'm pretty sure that is not a correct spelling . . . So I've been spelling it Greta. Which I heard was a Swedish (not German) name.

Either way, I don't really like the name, but she knows it so well that I hate to go with something totally different. I'm considering Gretchen.

Her parents came from Shap Haus, so I think that's where she originally came from. She was not bred by the kennel in her registered name, and because she has been rehomed several times, someone suggested I should just change her registered name to (for example) Greta vom Traumfanger (or Gretchen vom Traumfanger).

What are your thoughts on this?
What should her registered name be, and what should I call her?

I fostered a dog named Gretchen. When I first got her, I disliked the name. But I have to admit- it really grew on me. I had all kinds of fun nicknames mostly derivative of Gretchy. I now think it (Gretchen) is a really fun, classy name for a GSD.

She is a beautiful girl, you can call her any name that you like she will take to a name change. You can leave her registered name as it is if that is what you want to do. Lots of dogs on here have a call name that is nothing like their registered name.

I wouldn't change her registered name.

For one thing, to change it to your kennel name is misleading.

I have no opinion on the call name as I don't use "people names" for my dogs.

She's a half sister to my Berlin - they have the same dam, Sascha. Different sires. Surprising that they were able to name her without using Shap Haus in the registered name - I had to use it.

Sad that she's been through so many homes - she is a lovely girl!
