What is my dog?

We rescued Harley for a local GSD rescue. He came from a breeder but his papers were lost somewhere along the way. I've always wondered if he is a working, show, German or American line dog? Just purely out of curiosity. I wish I had a picture to post.

He is extremely tall, over the breed standard. And his back does not really appear to be angled at all. Any other clues I should look for?

Why no pics to show?

Sounds like Onyx's structure(26" and 90# female, straight back)....she is from what I gather a mix of Am pet/and working lines. Because Onyx is a bi-color it adds a bit of mystery into it.

All dogs do actually come from a breeder, don't they?

How tall is your dog? Have you actually measured him or just a guess at his height? I assume that you know that the US standard says 24-26" for a male right?

BTW, backs of the GSD are supposed to be "Straight"/level - not angled at all.

Have to see a good picture to even hazard any type of guess as to what your dog might be!

What about his temperament - what is that like?

I suppose you are right, all dogs do come from some sort of breeder. We were told he is pure bred with AKC papers for whatever that is worth. I have measured him. He's about 28". Very tall and thin though I imagine he will fill in as he gets older as he is only 2.

His temperament is fantastic. Great with children and other dogs. Not easily startled. Protective but not aggressive. Loves to be next to me at all times and is very loving. He's an 80lb lap dog
