Unhappy Freyja is freaking me out

So, for the past 2 months I have been studying for the bar exam. As of now my nerves are shot and I come up with random legal information at the drop of a hat. This morning when I let Freyja out to do her business she stiff-legged it up the driveway, snarling, barking, hackles raised, and making noises that she's never made before. I called her back and checked out the front yard...nothing. She did this once more this morning when I let her have her after-breakfast potty break. Soon as she came inside she did a patrol of all the downstairs windows and doors. She hasn't settled down yet. She is currently sitting, staring out the window and coming from her chest is a deep rumble and all her fur is on end. I can't see anything outside besides the normal sight of birds at the birdfeeder. She has never done anything like this before. To say the least I'm totally freaked out. I have already called my father, he thinks maybe a deer went through the yard but to be safe keep my revolver in an accessible location. So much for my peaceful study day.

Skylar did this a few times when she was younger. She did it once while on a walk, scared the living daylights out of me- I let her "investigate," and she took me to a those blue house numbers on the chains that blow in the wind hahaha.... Then she did it off leash, and it turned out to be the orange snow fencing in our property. Is there something out there that might be scaring her? that's what it was with skylar.

If it makes you feel any better..my dogs go nuts when deer/coyote/fox/rabbit/ are in the yard or have left their scent. The rabbit on the sidewalk is always worth a bark. And the coyote is worth lots of barks/growls/hackls! People never get the same concern. Hope its nothing!

I told my sister and her response was "I can imagine that call to the police. 'Hello, my dog keeps barking and snarling at the yard, can you please come check it out?'" LOL

Last winter there was a string of burglaries in my town, all during the day. Normally I would brush it off as her overreacting to something, but you can never be too cautious.

I have to agree with the possiblity of a wild life encounter. With the type of weather we've all been having the wild life is really on the move.

I'd follow your dad's advice, but I don't think there is much more to it than a hungry critter looking for a bite to eat.

That happens all the time around here with possums and such.

But what I read was, So you're gonna do pro bono legal work for some of these aggression cases on here?

My husband travels often. Last time he was gone, Zeke did the snarly, growly hackles at the back door. Scared the bejeebers out of me. Especially when I took a good look and saw a silhouette of a man at the edge of our property. It turned out to be a neighbor's guest out taking a walk, but MAN was I scared! zmy husband likes knowing Zeke is here when he's not.

Did you take her out and see what she leads you to?

I agree with the wildlife thing, it could be just about anything, that her nose is picking up on,,we have coyotes, bobcats, fishers, fox, bear, even sightings of cougars,,soooo she could be definately picking up on anything "wildlife" that's out of the norm for her
