What does it mean?

Everyday is such a fun adventure with Sirius (I'm sure I'll be retracting this statement in a few months when he reaches that dreaded butthead stage). One thing I have noticed is his intense stare and listening.

An example..Hubby and I were driving around town today doing errands. We place the back seat down so Sirius can move about but he always sits directly and closer behind us. During a conversation with the hubs, I glanced back to check on Sirius and was startled to see him right behind just staring at me with that look. It wasn't a mean look just a focused, intense kind of thing.

I laughed and ruffled his head and he quickly reverted back to his goofy/dufus grin (mouth open with tongue hanging out) wiggling his tail.

This isn't the first time I caught him just staring at me. Maybe waiting for a command?

Does this happen to you? What do you think it means?

what butthead stage?? when is the butthead stage?? how do you know you're dog is going to go through a butthead stage?

i don't know what it means when a dog stares at you
or is focused on you. sometimes my dog will lay in front
of me and just look at me.

Heidi gives me that focused looks sometimes...looks like she's studying for a statistics exam.

I have no idea what it means. Usually, I assume it means she wants me to do something with her rather than what I'm doing. If I react to her, she immediately gets the jumpy happy personality. If I ignore her, she lays down, possibly with a small whine. Even after six years, I am amazed at how she reacts to the most subtle motion from me.

Xander was doing that to me just last night. He was out and about inside. I was sitting on the laptop trying to catch up on some stuff and he's staring at me. Just sitting there and staring at me...like, right in my eyes. He was just sitting and watching. It was a very intense gaze. He had been playing with his bully stick and then I look up and he's staring at me...

...I have no idea why he was doing it but as soon as I asked him what he was up to he did exactly what Sirius did and turned into the happy, goofy guy he is.

I believe that he is hoping you will pay attention to him.

I get the same behavior. If I am wrapped up in doing something else - let's say I'm on the couch, typing on my laptop, or I'm laying on the bed, reading - Ronja will come up, sit, and just stare at me. She's waiting for me to either stop what I am doing and pay her attention, or for an invitation to come up and join me where I am to snuggle.

On a side note, you may want to reconsider letting your dog "move around" in the car, as he will become a dog-shaped missile in the case of an accident. It would be safer for him to either be crated in the back of the vehicle, or to have a seatbelt harness to keep him safe and contained.

When that happens, we say that they're sending us mind messages with their ESP but we're too dumb to hear them.

Mu puppy sometimes does that too and usually it means he wants or needs something..

Every morning between 6 am-8am he will sit in front of me and he will STARE at me with that look, I just don't know how I even notice it if Im supposedly sleeping. If I ignore him or just pet him , he'll put his paw in my shoulder and thats when I give up and he wins. Normally it's because he wants to pee or..like today, he did it today but at 3 40 AM he wanted to play.... I had to put him in his crate
