How old is he?
Yes he needs to be walked either twice a day, or one long walk then a good session of fetch, Frisbee or ball throwing etc.

If your trainer is saying twice a day though he knows your dog, so I would go with what he says.

I walk dodger twice a day for at least 45 mins, usually it's any where from an hour to hour and a half twice a day. Dodge is 2 1/2. some days he get one hour walk and 20-40 min flirt pole time with obedience mixed in. I'm in the process of teaching him fetch so I'll be doing that in addition to his daily walks.

I agree with your trainer--he needs daily exercise and walking

you should walk your dog often, play with him, train him,
socialize him, go to class, have quality time together, etc.

depends on the dog. A puppy that young shouldn't be walked in my opinion. Jogging... shouldn't be done at all in my opinion, but especially with a growing dog.

When I got my male, I was walking him about 1/8th of a mile to the stop sign and back at a casual "explore the world" pace and the breeder gave me an earful on that...

I currently do not walk my dogs at all. We get our "roaming as a pack" fix in the car (they accompany me everywhere) and we play some physical games at home or stop at a field or something. As I type this they are both sleeping at my feet. Walking *in my opinion* is more of an exercise in pack bonding in the same way a pack hunts together, than it is a means to burn energy (but it accomplishes both). For my particular situation, my method fills both needs effectively.

We also do a lot of swimming (they do anyway)

You should be exercising your puppy every day both on leash and off. Keep in mind when on leash to not push your puppy any faster or further than he's willing to go. Also keep in mind that at this age they need to stop and look around from time to time to explore their world.

If you want to take your dog jogging at some point, make sure you build up to it and again don't push him. I was jogging my pup 3 miles a day, daily, by the age of 6 months and, no, jogging will not damage your dog unless you over-do it or your dog is structurally unsound to begin with. This is another one of those myths that keeps getting repeated until people believe it's actually true.

I walk Rommel almost everyday (weather dependent. when it's colder than -10 we stay in) for at least an hour tops, if not longer. About every other day, we play at the dog park for a couple hours, so he gets a lot of running and play time with other dogs. When it's summer, we go on all day hikes and he swims in any lake or body of water he sees
