Record Management

I thought this could be a good discussion topic. I didn't find anything relating to this in my searches.

Question: What records do you keep track of relating to your dog? And how do you keep track of them?

Remy is going through some health issues, so I try to keep track of everything I change, give him or notice. The food he eats, the crappy water he accidentally drank, his weight, how much he eats, any changes in behavior, Heartgard given, etc.

The best way I have found (so far) for me to keep track was to set up his own email address and email things I do or notice with a date format and a brief subject. I then will add detail in the body of the email if needed. So I guess you could say I keep an "email diary".

I can do this anytime anywhere I have my cell phone, which is always.

I am always looking for new and better (and convenient) ways to keep track of things!

So what do YOU do and why?

Michael

I'm thinking about setting up a wordpress blog to track this stuff. I can post to that and access it from my iPhone so it would usually be handy anywhere there's cell phone coverage.

We just have a file folder in the fire safe box with all the vet receipts. If things got complicated and we felt we needed to organize better, we'd probably set up a Google doc that could be accessed by me or my husband (shared between us). That's how we track our spending. Love Google docs.

I think I may just start using google docs!

I can create and edit on my phone via the mobile site, cool!

Our healthy dogs have one file they share with vet info, microchip info, obedience class graduation certificates, change of ownership forms, etc.

Kodi was such a medical nightmare that he had his own file which was thicker in a couple of months than all the other dogs combined, and the other file goes back 7 YEARS.

For your case, I would probably use microsoft word and update daily or as needed, but your idea works ok. I guess I would say that it may be a pain for you to later easily access everything at once. You'll have to open individual e-mails for each day or issue.

I have a file for both of my dogs in the file cabinet. My husband makes fun of me and says I have "too good" of a memory so I keep details upstairs in my head

I have a folder too with receipts, blood test results etc. I am old school and write in a diary the dates of when tick, worm treatments etc are due, why I took her to the vet and the outcome (I do the same for the cats).
